Below are frequently asked questions.
The new Bohol Panglao International Airport opened for daylight flights on 28 November 2018. Night flights will follow soon. Tagbilaran Airport is now permanently closed. The new airport on Panglao Island can handle seven aircraft at one time on the apron, so delays should be minimal. Citadel Alona is only a 5-10 minute drive away by bus. There are no taxis or tricycle services yet within the airport. We recommend that guests take the air-conditioned bus service to ALONA BEACH – Php15/person. Ask the bus driver to drop you in front of Citadel Alona Inn between the National Road / Ester Lim Drive junction and the main entrance to Henann Resort.
Flying in & out via Cebu’s Mactan Airport and travelling by fast ferry to Tagbilaran Port is the other alternative. Guests should allow at least two (2) hours to transfer by taxi to the Cebu Port. White metered taxis in Cebu are half the price of the special airport yellow taxis. MyBus operates a Mactan Airport < > Cebu Seaport coach service from outside the Arrivals Terminal. This goes first to SM City Mall, and only then goes on to Cebu Port. Because traffic can be bad, allow yourself to 2.5 to 3 hours transit time.
Frequent fastcraft ferry services to and from Tagbilaran are provided by two companies, Supercat/2GO and Oceanjet with a single trip taking just under 2 hours. You can now book and pay for tickets on-line.
Be careful! Fastcraft ferry tickets are not actually on sale in the Cebu Port Passenger Terminal 1 but must be purchased for cash outside the Cebu Port Pier 1 Entrance Gate. Tell your taxi to drop you at the Ticket Offices and not at the Passenger Terminal 1 entrance if you need tickets.
Citadel Alona is only a small budget pension house and has no vehicle for guest transport. We recommend that guests plan to use the air-conditioned bus passing Alona Beach from the Bohol Panglao International Airport, and Tagbilaran-based taxis, vans and tricycles to travel from the Tagbilaran Seaport to the Alona area. For Tagbilaran City taxis, arrange to pay twice the meter amount – around Php500, and for Tricycles around Php300. In addition private cars with drivers charge around Php500, Van hire costs are dependent on the number of persons travelling. If requests are sent by email to Citadel Alona Inn, we can arrange for a car to collect guests, but this service is considerably more expensive.
Backpackers may want to be more adventurous and take the public bus/jeepney transport from Tagbilaran Seaport. To commute to Citadel Alona Inn, first take a tricycle from the Tagbilaran Seaport to Rizal Park /the square in front of the Cathedral (minimum fare P8 per person). Take the air-conditioned bus which goes first to the BPIA Airport and then on to ALONA BEACH (Php65 per person). Please request bus driver to stop in front of Citadel Alona Inn.
We are situated in Barangay Tawala in the Municipality of Panglao along the Panglao Island circumferential road leading into the built-up Alona hinterland area. The drive takes 5-10 minutes from the Bohol Panglao International Airport and 25-30 minutes by taxi of van from Tagbilaran Seaport. Tricycles take 40-50 minutes from the Seaport.
Citadel Alona itself is a 5 - 8 minutes leisurely walk to Alona Beach and is well-sited with lots of shops, restaurants and bars just a short walk away.
Yes, but we can only help you when you check-in.
Citadel Alona maintains a list of reliable freelance operators for both land and sea transport who it can contact on behalf of our checked-in guests to arrange or negotiate trips and tours.
Guests directly pay the operators for such trips and tours and therefore get the cheapest possible rates. Citadel Alona does NOT collect any commission from these operators as is usually the case for most of the local accommodation establishments.

Sorry, but there is no hot water in the bathrooms. A cool shower is refreshing and invigorating in this hot tropical island.
The charge includes cost of room per night of stay as shown in the Room Price List, and free use of services in the main building.. These include the Reception / TV Sala, the Guests’ Communal Kitchen, the Balcony Dining / Relaxing Area, and the Guests’ Garden with its two shaded-seating umbrellas and outdoor barbeque & wash-up area.

Philippines-based guests. Regrettably, because of repeated 'no shows' of persons booked with us in the past and particularly in the high season, we have been forced to require all peak season bookings from Philippines-based potential clients to be backed with a Php1,000 deposit per room booked.
Such deposits should be paid into our bank accounts with either Security Bank or Bank of the Philippine Islands. Deposits can be made at any branch of the two banks throughout the Philippines. Please text us at 0915 463 6944 for details of the account names and numbers.
After making your deposit payment, please immediately text or e-mail us so we can re-classify your booking as 'confirmed'. Unconfirmed are automatically erased if no deposit is made within 48 hours of a temporary booking. Such deposits are deductible from the total bill upon check in.
All confirmed bookings made by Philippines-based guests secured with a deposit will be reserved until 8.00pm on the date of intended arrival. Guests expecting to arrive late must either telephone/text to inform our staff to continue to hold the room for them after 8.00pm.
Overseas-based Guests. If and when we have all your requirements correctly recorded in emails together with your Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) at Tagbilaran Airport or Seaport, we will send you an email informing you that the room will be kept for you for a further two (2) hours after the given ETA. Please telephone/text to 0915 463 6944 to inform our staff to continue to hold the room if you have problems with delays. If you do not arrive by the ETA+2hrs time, we will offer the room to any walk-in guest.
Citadel Alona Inn does not accept credit card, foreign currency or travellers check payments. All payments must be made in cash in Philippine Pesos.
There are banks and ATM cash machines nearby. Both the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and Banco de Oro (BDO) have branches on the main road to Alona Beach. There is also an ATM operated by Metrobank in the convenience store at the bottom of the Beach Road hill. ATMs dispense up to Php5,000 per transaction for foreign cards and Php10,000 for local cards. “Home away from home”
I kept extending my stay. The girls that work there are absolutely wonderful. I work online and came to Alona for the month because Canada is really cold right now. The internet was strong enough to work from the hotel (I work more than six hours a day satellite! Remember you are on an island and not in a city in the West) and I will absolutely be coming back here next year.
My room size was perfect for one person, quiet, great temperature at night for a fan room and there are two different shaded terraces to relax that are hardly ever used and a kitchen. Along with the Japanese man that comes here annually, I WILL be back next year!
“Good location and worth the price you paid”
I stayed on 2nd floor and there is a big spacious balcony facing main road which you can talk to your friends there but not inside room. Also there is a table and seat outside every room I can sit and empty my mind by looking at their beautiful horticulture.
“Family Vacation in Panglao Bohol”
Good location, the staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean.
“Big house with a nice patio !”
Big house in Alona Barangay, 5 minutes walk from the beach, lots of cafés, restaurants, minimarket around. Very clean, although you never see the cleaners. That's because they're at work very early in the morning ;). There's a table and two chairs for every room, on the patio side. Very nice and quiet. There's a kitchen where you can prepare yourself breakfast/lunch/dinner. Then you can eat it on the big terrace.
“Nice location, nice amenities outside of the bedrooms.”
Staff is very friendly. The rooms are quaint but suitable for a short stay, if you like big beds and lots of space then this is not the place for you. The grounds are very nice though. Plenty of spaces to hangout and enjoy the weather on the patio spaces outside. There is also a kitchen with basic cooking supplies. It is a short walk to the beach and the location is very good. The a.c. worked, and the wifi works outside of the rooms.
“I had a great time in Panglao, and the Citadel Alona made it easy to have a long stay.”
The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is a short walk to the beach and is in a safe part of town.
Great location, and comfortable place to stay, very spacious. Nice living room area and a good size of kitchen to use. It was close to the beach and restaurants. The staff was really nice. Thank you!
I stayed at Citadel Alona Inn for about one week. It was very clean. The staff were very helpful and made me feel at home. It has good value for money and is close to the beach. I would like to come back again.
